Resiliency Manager/Community Support Worker Position
Location: Ashcroft Indian Band – Health Centre Job Type: Full-Time, 8:00-3:00 Monday to Friday (Occasional Evenings when there is a community event or dinner). Position Overview: The Resiliency Manager/Community Support Worker will provide essential support to community members, fostering resilience, mental wellness, and community engagement. The ideal candidate will have experience working with Indigenous populations, particularly in the areas of addiction, trauma, and cultural sensitivity. The role will involve direct engagement with community members, helping to design and implement programs, coordinate health services, and create a welcoming, safe space for individuals and families. In this role, maintaining confidentiality is paramount to building trust and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community members. This role includes handling sensitive information and adhering to all privacy regulations to protect the dignity of individuals and foster a supportive environment. Key Responsibilities: • Build and maintain trusting relationships with community members, especially those dealing with trauma, addiction, mental health issues and vulnerable populations. • Act as a liaison between community members and health professionals, ensuring access to necessary health services and supporting members in attending appointments (including transportation to and from appointments), medication, eligibility requirements with prescriptions and procedures, liaison with health professionals, medical supplies and work with Interior Health and FNHA. • Coordinate and lead group activities that promote wellness and cultural connection, including arts, crafts, cooking, painting, sewing, and other community-driven projects. • Organize and facilitate workshops and sessions with outside consultants to bring additional expertise to the community (i.e., mental health, addiction recovery, counselling, art therapy, massage, mental health and cultural revitalization, etc.). • Design, plan, and implement programs that encourage community engagement and support individual and collective healing, focusing on women, children, and families. • Work collaboratively with the Health Director and Administrative staff to plan, schedule, and run weekly activities for community members. • Create safe, inclusive spaces for community members to participate in activities, fostering trust and a sense of belonging. • Prepare, schedule and assist weekly luncheons deliver and freeze meals to supplement members during financial shortfalls, and organize meals for scheduled events. Education & Experience • Degree or diploma in Indigenous Studies, Nursing, Social Work and/or relevant counselling experience. • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in community-based work or program development. • 3-5 years of experience working within an Indigenous community and a strong connection to Indigenous culture is preferred. Social & Cultural Resilience • Support programs that strengthen cultural identity, language preservation, and traditional knowledge. • Work with Elders, and youth to create culturally relevant initiatives. • Advocate for mental health and wellness programs that incorporate Indigenous healing practices.
