Ashcroft Terminal and the PSA Group are seeking a Rail Equipment Operator to join their growing team!

As the only private logistics terminal in Canada with CP & CN mainlines onsite, ATL is strategically located to help shippers, manufacturers, and producers prepare their commodities for export or import. As a member of PSA International, Ashcroft Terminal is part of a global network of supply chain professionals!

In the position of Rail Equipment Operator, the successful candidate will support safe and efficient rail car switching services while ensuring that all related administrative and organizational details are taken care of in a timely and appropriate manner.

ROLES, RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate rail equipment in a safe and efficient manner and that all rail operating procedures are followed.
  • Operate track mobile to transport railcars to designated areas within the yard.
  • Couple/uncouple and breakup of cars operating handbrake accordingly and as per policy.
  • Actively communicate with radio to ensure safe transportation of rail cars.
  • Complete daily and weekly mechanical/equipment checks.
  • Communicate efficiently with the Assistant Terminal Manager, make recommendations on process improvements.
  • Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.

Basic Administration:

  • Complete detailed and accurate timecards.
  • Keeping records of the movement of railcars and trains within the yard.
  • Ensure paperwork is complete and accurate.
  • Read and sign off on all related company SOP’s.
  • Complete daily equipment checks.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education Requirements:

  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • A valid Railway Operating Certificate would be an asset.
  • Current First Aid Certificate is an asset.

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience operating heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Proficiency in safely operating various types of rail equipment and machinery.
  • Must be able to perform physically repetitive tasks, with the ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outside year-round in all weather conditions during irregular working hours.

Skill Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Must hold a valid Driver’s License and provide a drivers abstract.
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated, with an ability to work independently using sound judgment and initiative.
  • Must have a safety-focused mindset in all activities.
  • Must be dependable and reliable in attendance, punctuality, and task completion.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Must have proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Must have the ability to make reasoned decisions.
  • Detail-oriented, with an emphasis on exceptional quality of work.
  • Proven organizational ability.
  • Flexible, honest, and acting in all situations with professionalism and integrity.
  • Professional with a positive, proactive ‘can-do’ and ‘solutions oriented’ attitude.
  • Physical ability to operate rail equipment and switching for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings and weekends as required.
