Clinton Victim Service Worker (Police Based)

The South Cariboo Elizabeth Fry Society operates in a rural area in the Southern Interior of British Columbia with Ashcroft, BC being the main office. We provide services to individuals and families living over a 22,500 square kilometer area. This area includes five small communities (Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Clinton, Spences Bridge and Walhachin) and several First Nations Bands.

Our Mission is to build strong communities as the social services leader by supporting social, emotional, mental, physical, and cultural wellbeing to families, individuals, children, youth, caregivers, and seniors in the South Cariboo.

SUMMARY:

The Police-based Victim Service Program is located with the Clinton RCMP Detachment and provides services within the areas of this jurisdiction.  Police-based victim services programs provide services along the continuum of crisis to conclusion. Services include crisis intervention, emotional support and information sharing and referrals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

A diploma in the Social Services field and six months of experience in a similar setting. Courses in social services, victim services, trauma intervention or criminology, plus considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of crisis intervention and follow-up support as needed, along with a working knowledge of court and police procedures, sound knowledge of available community resources.

Ability to effectively provide direct services to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma, often under difficult circumstances; to prepare records related to the work; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts, while upholding professional boundaries.

A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required along with your own reliable transportation for which remuneration will be provided.

Applicants must currently possess, or can obtain and maintain, RCMP enhanced reliability clearance.

 

 

 

Reporting to the South Cariboo Elizabeth Fry Executive Director and RCMP Commander you will be responsible for the following.

SERVICE DELIVERABLES:

Provide victims with emotional support to assist them in their recovery from the effects of crime and trauma.

Provide victims with general information including, but not limited to the justice system; relevant federal and provincial legislation and programs pertaining to victims of crime; crime prevention; safety planning; and community, government, justice, health, or other resources available.

Provide, or facilitate victims access to, case-specific information which may include, but is not limited to:

Information relating to; the police investigation, charges laid against the offender, protective orders, and information regarding sentence, probation, and parole.

Courtroom orientation, procedures, and etiquette.

Assess the needs of victims for additional support and/or services and make appropriate referrals to community, government, justice, health, and other resources.

Assist victims in completing applications for the Crime Victim Assistance Program, provincial assistance programs and victim impact statements.

Provide or facilitate, with the consent of the victims, accompaniment to police, Crown Counsel, or court

Maintain a working relationship with local community, government, justice, health, and other service providers.

Provide public education on issues of criminal victimization, victim services, and prevention as directed by supervisors.

Conforms to program guidelines and objections, liaising with police members and a variety of government and community agencies to coordinate work efforts,

Maintains monthly statistics and provides other reports as required.

Prepare and maintain required records, statistics, reports, and correspondence related to the program through paper and computer client data as required.

The hours of work will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:30am to 4:30 pm – 28 hours /week.

Some evening and weekend work will be required.
