JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to and under the general direction of the Administrator, the Director of Health is responsible for planning, organizing, administering, and evaluating the health-related programs and services for the Health Centre, for Ts’kw’aylaxw First Nation
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Ts’kw’aylaxw First Nation’s policies and procedures;

Performs general human resources management functions, including department hiring, evaluations, training, development, motivation, succession planning and discipline;
• Offers preventative health services according to the First Nations Health Authority Agreements (FNHA), ISC/AANDC, and any other funding agreements and agencies;
• Works in conjunction with community members, community leaders, and members of the health care delivery team, to determine major health program needs and to implement these programs to promote healthy lifestyles and prevention services;

Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Health Centre and health programs;
• Oversees the needs assessments of clients and assists in organizing groups and/or individuals of all ages in ways to achieve and maintain good health;

Provides funding agencies with all accounts, records and supporting documents and reports related to the agreements as required, & FNHA Patient Travel Reporting at fiscal year-end;
?
Provides FNHA with Health Transfer evaluations and provides FNHA in Ottawa a complete 5-year Evaluation and new Health Plan at the end of that agreement;

Promotes the Health Centers activities with the Band membership, other First Nations, and various health service personnel;
?
Facilitates staff in planning and conducting meetings and workshops aimed at preventing health problems and promoting healthy lifestyles;
?
• Facilitates and assists health staff in the delivery and maintenance of wellness and health programs;
?
• Promotes a team approach within the health department and works with staff to determine necessary programs in fulfilling goals and objectives of the first nation and funding agencies;
?
• Works in conjunction with other departments in the delivery of services;
?
• Fosters a cross-cultural understanding when working with health care personnel from other cultures on how to adapt health services to local culture and customs;
• Develops, maintains and stores all records and files, ensuring confidentiality;
• Collects statistical data and ensures funding agencies receive these reports;
• Identifies and implements continuing education to meet ongoing professional needs of the health staff;
• Establishes and maintains communications and relationships with various agencies;
• Develops, administers and maintains an operational budgets & workplans for the Health Department;

• Researches and develops proposals for grant and funding opportunities;
• Works with health research agencies and compiles data as needed;
?
• Answers inquiries, provides information, referrals and forms as required;
• Maintains the work area in a clean and professional manner;

• Performs other related duties as required
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
?
• Grade 12 education or equivalent
?
• Post-Secondary degree in Health Administration and/or First Nations Health and/or Social Work and/or Community Health Care
?
• Previous demonstrated experience in managing Human Resources
?
• Good administrative skills, e.g. budgets, workplans, managing projects, etc.
?
• Experience in a First Nations environment would be an asset
?
• Possess strong computer skills using MS Office, excel, software
?
• Knowledge in using the Xyntax system would be an asset
• Must be familiar with the goals and objectives of the FNHA/ & Health, ISC/AANDC Policies and Health Board;
• Good knowledge of accounting and budgeting;

• Good verbal and written communication skills
?
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills to achieve desired results
?
• Diplomacy, tact and confidentiality in dealing with a variety of people and information

• Remuneration: $54,600 to $64,992
PYHSICAL DEMANDS
Those normally associated with a typical office environment. Continuous visual concentration on computer/laptop and/or calculator.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The majority of work is performed in a typical office environment.
